Abu Tartour Phosphate Mine

Abu Tartour Phosphate mine is the largest phosphate mine in Egypt and considered one of the largest phosphate mines in the world. It is located in the New Valley Governorate 50 km from El Kharga City. The mine has an estimated phosphate ore reserves of about 4 billion tons of medium to high quality phosphate rock ranging from 25% up to 31% P2O5 with an average of 27% P2O5.

Misr Phosphate Company (www.phosphatemisr.com) is the operator of the mine together with other major phosphate mines in Egypt (namely El Sebayah and Red Sea mines). Misr Phosphate exports almost 2 million tons annually to the international markets and has a production capability of 5 million tons per annum.

The Site is supported with a great infrastructure that will support any downstream project(s) on its land. The infrastructure including but not limited to:

  • Administrative Buildings
  • Transformer Power Station
  • Underground Water Wells
  • Residential Buildings
  • Warehouses
  • Maintenance workshops

In 2018, Misr Phosphate Company (the major shareholder of WAPHCO) has acquired the licenses and rights to operate the whole Plateau of Abu Tartour Mine; with such huge reserves of high quality phosphate ore, the establishment of tens of projects similar to El Wady with similar capacities and even more is unquestionable.
